Employee dies from drug overdose

Investigation abstract

At 3:30 p.m. on July 8, 2023, Employee #1, a highway construction worker, was working on the demolition of a concrete section on Interstate I-75 at Mile Marker 256, when he started to act agitated, paranoid, and out of character. Employee #1 was told to go inside a company truck to calm down and cool off. He was seen entering and exiting the truck a couple times during a 15 to 20 minutes time-period. Employee #1 left the job site and was found unresponsive inside a utility trailer at approximately 7:00 p.m. EMS was called and pronounced Employee #1 dead on the scene. Employee #1 died of methamphetamine toxicity [methamphetamine (6092 ng/mL) and amphetamine (442 ng/mL)].
