Employee drowns in river
Investigation abstract
At 1:40 p.m. on September 13, 2023, two wildlife biologists, Employee #1 and a coworker, were snorkeling in the Wind River, identifying and counting steelhead trout, when one got caught in a current and was swept into a swift water hazard. She was unable to self-extricate. Coworker #1 saw her in trouble and attempted to render assistance. When he was not immediately able to get her out of the water, he went to a nearby road and flagged down a passerby person who activated EMS. The passerby person and EMS were unable to affect a rescue and Employee #1 eventually drowned. As of last contact with the Skamania County Sherrif's office, they were working on recovery efforts.
