Final narrative
A maintenance employee was working on a lathe in the machine shop. He needed to remove a rust spot on the shaft after beveling it. Wearing gloves, he began removing the rust by placing a small piece of sand paper over the area as the shaft turned on the lathe (polishing). The glove got caught in the rotating shaft, which pulled the employee into the machine and amputated his left pinky finger, broke his left arm, and stretched his wrist tendons. He was hospitalized and underwent surgery.
