Federal OSHA recorded a severe workplace injury at Southwire Company, 1 Southwire Drive, CARROLLTON, GEORGIA 30119 on — Fractures, affecting the ankle(s).

An employee was checking the printer on Machine # 0735-16 while the line was down and not running. He stepped over the wire (approximately 7 inches from the ground) with his left foot and as he attempted to bring his right foot over, his toe caught the wire and he fell forward fracturing the right ankle.

An employee was checking the metering pin alignment when his right index finger was caught between the caster wheel and the tension wheel resulting in a partial amputation.

On April 25, 2023, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the injured employee was observing his co-workers as they used a chain to the lift the metal lid from a launder machine (a piece of equipment that holds and processes copper). The chain shifted, causing the lid to shift. Copper debris fell off the lid, striking the injured employee and fracturing the right side of their jaw.

An employee had connected two pieces of large wire together to provide a continuous feed of wire into a plastic extruder. The feed wire comes into the process on large metal reels; the employee was taking up the slack using a reel pay-off machine. As the wire slack was taken up on the reel, the wire swept the employee off his feet. The employee landed on his left shoulder and the left side of his head. He was hospitalized, suffering a subarachnoid and subdural hematoma as well as a shoulder injury.

An employee loaded a reel of cable onto the payoff machine area. The employee was rocking the reel into place when the reel went too far forward, catching the employee's left ring and pinky fingers between the side of the metal reel and the vertical support structure of the machine's control panel. The employee's pinky fingertip had to be amputated.

He was holding the sheave when the PIT struck a pothole in the floor, causing the sheave to roll forward and crush his right index fingertip against the back of the PIT seat frame. The employee's fingertip was amputated, requiring hospitalization and surgery.

An employee was building slings. They were placing wire rope in a pneumatic vise when their right index finger was caught between the vise and the wire rope, resulting in a fracture that required hospitalization and surgery.

On September 15, 2025, an employee was working on an auto-welder when the guard closed on their left ring finger, resulting in a fingertip amputation.

At about 7:15 a.m. on August 28, 2025, an employee was using a construction compactor to stabilize the dirt of a dam that had just been built. The dirt gave way underneath the compactor, which tipped on its left side. The employee fell out and was crushed and pinned between the compactor and the dirt. He was hospitalized, having suffered a broken sternum and broken ribs on both sides, as well as a laceration to the left leg by the ankle joint.

A temporary employee was stripping wire for scrap when the machine crushed their left thumb and little finger.
