An employee pulled a 40-foot long spool (pipe hardware) from near the bottom of a skid using a rope that was tied between the crane outrigger (rear passenger side) and the pipe spool. As the outrigger was retracting, the employee's left hand and arm were caught between the outrigger base and the crane outrigger causing a crushing injury to the employee's left hand/wrist that resulted in surgical amputation.
