An employee was opening a drain valve for a standpipe when they stepped in hot stock (hot water and paper mixture that is 173-degrees Fahrenheit). The employee was hospitalized with thermal burns to the top of their feet and ankles, the left side of their abdomen, and their right hand.

An employee was transferring sulfuric acid via a hose to a temporary holding tote when acid splashed onto his chest, torso, and arms, resulting in burns.

An employee was clearing a jam in front of the wood sorter gate before the chipper in-feed conveyor. The jammed wood had pushed the sorter gate up to nearly the full-open position. The employee attached a chain-fall to one of the jammed logs. As the log was raised, the rest of the jam was relieved and fell on the conveyor below. The sorter gate then closed on the employee's right leg crushing it between the gate, a piece of wood and the surrounding frame. The employee's lower right leg was fractured.

A maintenance employee was working on the roof. He was walking down the fixed stairs from the cooling tower when he missed a step and both his knees gave out. He caught himself on the rail and did not fall. He suffered from torn tendons behind both kneecaps, requiring hospitalization and surgery.

An employee was operating an ironworker (steel punching/shearing) machine. A piece of the tooling broke off and struck the employee's neck; a fragment was lodged in his neck. The employee was hospitalized and required surgery.

On October 25, 2025, an employee was stringing up a new reel of tire tread on a machine. The employee pulled a 6-inch tail and proceeded to spool up the liner. As the machine was jogged to begin the liner wrapping process, the liner caught the employee's glove and pulled their right arm into the liner, causing a fracture to the arm.

Big River Steel, LLC

An employee was doing a cable change on top of an electric overhead traveling (EOT) crane. They were positioned between the cable drum and the drive shaft. While rotating the cable drum, the employee reached for the new cable that was to be installed. The grease fitting on the drive shaft caught their fall harness and pulled them underneath the drive shaft. The employee was pinned between the drive shaft and two pieces of angle steel, resulting in a fracture to their left hip.

An employee was helping two other employees to push a pallet of tile on a loading dock. He suffered a broken fibula and was hospitalized.
