An employee was reeving the main cable on the drum of a crane. The reeving line began to take the weight of the block and pulled the boom down. The employee was standing on a ladder with a 4"x6" piece of wood to keep the reeving cable from sliding across the boom lacings. When the boom pulled down, the employee's right thumb and index finger were pinched between the block of wood and the top of the a-frame ladder he was standing on. The employee suffered an open wound on the thumb and a fracture to the right index finger. The employee was hospitalized.
