On September 19, 2024, a sanitation employee was cleaning a gizzard peeler machine. While removing a piece of meat, his glove was pulled into the rollers of the machine, resulting in amputation of his left index and middle fingers to the first joint.
The employee stepped onto a slatted wooden pallet and knelt to unstack premade box lids when her feet went numb, causing her to trip and fall. The employee fell to her hands and knees and then turned onto her left side. The employee suffered a fracture to her right ankle and a loss of consciousness.
