Hunter Mountain Resort

Federal OSHA recorded a severe workplace injury at Hunter Mountain Resort, 64 Klein Avenue, HUNTER, NEW YORK 12442 on — Fractures , affecting the Trunk and other upper extremities.

A ski patrol employee was conducting a "sweep" to ensure all guests were safely off the hill for the night before closing. While approaching the bottom of the mountain, the employee's right ski got caught in an inconsistency in the snow, causing them to fall forward onto their right shoulder. The employee sustained non-displaced fractures in the posterior rib cage, a fractured right scapula, and a fractured right clavicle.

An employee was attempting to clear snow off a "willy bag" (a safety bag to put under unseated passengers for the lift) when he was struck by a moving chair. The employee sustained multiple fractured ribs and a pneumothorax.

A mountain guest services employee was escorting an injured customer to safety on a ski run. The employee was following slowly behind patrollers and a toboggan when he caught an edge and fell on the snow. The employee struck his face and head when he fell. He was hospitalized with a head contusion and a strain.

An employee was skiing in a closed terrain park and went off a jump. Upon landing, the employee struck the ground and sustained internal injuries that required hospitalization and surgery.

Two employees were in a drive terminal, pulling a new fuel line for an EPU to provide tertiary power for a ski lift. After unspooling the fuel line, one employee took a step backward and fell through the skinning (the floor of the terminal) to the ground about 12-15 feet below. The employee suffered a dislocated ankle and fractures to the lower tibia and fibula.

An employee was kneeling, lighting the pilot for a gas range, when gas that had leaked from a quick coupler at the back of the range ignited. The employee suffered serious burns to both arms and her neck.

An employee was operating a battery-powered broom to clean demolition debris off the top of the outermost bridge girder. The girder was approximately 11 feet above the demolition scaffold below. The employee fell approximately 8 feet to wind bracing below. The employee was hospitalized with a pelvis/tailbone fracture. Fall protection was in place at the time.

An employee slipped while descending in a stairwell, fell, and suffered multiple contusions/bruises to the head, neck, shoulders, knees, and back. She was hospitalized.

An employee was directing trucks as they entered and left a highway work zone. A vehicle struck them, resulting in multiple fractures and other injuries. The employee was hospitalized.
