The repair involved installing two embedded tubes in the ground and connecting them with a strut, then connecting the tubes to wooden breakaway posts. The employee was holding a wooden breakaway post while a coworker was using a post driver truck to move one of the embedded tubes to align with the strut and breakaway post. The tower of the post driver contacted the employee's right middle finger, resulting in an open fracture to the distal phalanx and a traumatic amputation to the fingertip.
