I experience a needle stick injury while handling a needle used for drawing blood from a patient.

What happened

After completing the blood draw I was in the process of engaging the needle 's safety cover when i discovered that the cover was broken. This defect left the needle exposed and as a result i was accidentally stuck by the needle on my middle finger.
