Before the incident

Administered Flu vaccine to patient(RM305 [REDACTED] [REDACTED]) left deltoid per protocol. Gloves bilateral were worn. After administering the vaccine patient jerked a bit and I stated Hold on I need to cover your injection site. Patient states Oh ok. I changed the vaccine syringe to my left hand and proceded to clamp the safety cap and it slipped without engaging and pierced my thumb to my left hand which was gloved. I immediately left patient room and bled my thumb out per protocol following soap and water scrub. Alcohol cleanse following and covered. Reported to the 3East Manager [REDACTED] and immediately reported to employee health.
