Placing insulin needle in sharps container

When I gave patient insulin I thought I pushed white safety device all the way up however when I went to put it in the sharps container I felt a prick through my gloves. I thought I pushed it up all the way but I must have not pushed it up all the way which is what I think caused the needle stick. I immediately washed my hands there was a tiny speck of blood on my finger went away with washing it.
