Before the incident
I was drawing labs on this patient using a butterfly needle. When I retracted the needle it appears I did not retract it properly because I felt a scratch to my right palm. I initially did not think anything was wrong but when I took off my glove I noticed a light smear of blood in the middle of my palm but the skin did not look broken. I assessed the glove and I found a tear and puncture hole. I initially did not notify my charge nurse due to change of shift issues with another patient but when I got home I decided to report it to the day shift charge nurse and come back to the hospital to follow the protocol.
