Before the incident

The injured employee was attempting to cut a piece of fabric using a battery-operated cutting tool when the injury occurred. The employee was holding the tool with his right hand and the fabric with his left hand. The fabric was single layered white pattern material on top of a MDF tabletop. The employee failed to put on the cut resistant gloves needed for the perform this task and resulted in a laceration to his left index finger when his hand made contact with the blade.
