What happened

I was wearing gloves. I was administering an IM medication to a patient in her left ventrogluteal area. After giving the injection I swipped the safety cap up to close the needle but it did not close all of the way. I was holding the syringe in my right hand but stuck my left thumb when pulling the patients pants line back up.
