Before the incident
De-escalating a 1:1 patient on the Behaviour Health Adult unit.
What happened
During meal time patient took a bite out of Styrofoam cup. Employee and another staff member were attempting to de-escalate and retrieve the cup before it was swallowed. Patient became physically aggressive kicking both staff members. Employee was kicked in bilateral front knees several times as well as once very hard in the back of the right knee. Bruising shooting pain and numbness in the right leg shooting to the knee was observed after patient kicked.
