What happened

Before collecting blood from a patient I removed the luer adapter from the end of the butterfly needle. There was not a sharps container close by so I placed the clean sharp in the empty syringe wrapper for later disposal. After collecting the blood I placed the syringe in the same wrapper. I wasn 't careful and crumpled up the wrapper. The now dirty sharp pierced the inside surface of my right middle finger above the last joint.
