Before the incident

Associate had been performing routine duties as material handler and had just parked their forklift before attempting to dismount.

What happened

Associate was attempting to dismount the forklift when they grabbed the frame of the forklift instead of the handle to maintain 3 points of contact per company policy when mounting and dismounting the forklift. The associate then slipped causing her thumb to make contact with the inside of the forklift handle fracturing the metacarpel in their right thumb.
