Before the incident

(Electronic SREO) was administering [REDACTED] injection in patient 's arm. Patient declined to have injection in his abdominal area. Once injection was finished I tried to retract the needle by pushing in on it while still inside of patient. The patient jumped with fright and the needle came out of his arm without being retracted and I accidently stuck my left index finger with the needle. Activity Before Incident: I was in process of administering morning medications to this patient
