EVS employee reported to Lab Manager at approximately [REDACTED] [REDACTED] that she was punctured by a needle while emptying regular trash in the phlebotomy staging area. She retrieved the device from the trash to see what caused the injury; and it was found to be a butterfly needle that was not discarded in sharps with it 's protective safety covering. House supervisor was notified at [REDACTED] [REDACTED] and the employee was directed to go to the ER immediately for evaluation.
