As employee was helping patient stand patient was having a hard time and employee felt a pull in her left shoulder arm.

Injury or illness

Left arm strain later determined a torn rotator cuff.

Object or substance involved

There was confusion on patients care plan if they should be using a lift or a two person assist. Employee verbally asked therapy who advised a two person assist was adequate. Care plan was reviewed following incident and patient changed to require lift.
