Before the incident
was floated to endoscopy suit to learn on IV starts associate missed with 1st attempt she removed the IV needle without deploying the safety mechanism and placed the needle back into the packaging to discard after the IV start. After successful 2nd attempt if IV start associate was cleaning up after IV start and was in the process of cleaning up and associate poked herself on right 1st joint of the thumb. Cannot recall how the needle stick happened. Felt poke through gloves and noticed bleeding on thumb and removed gloves and washed hand and washed hand with sanitizer.
