Walking through laydown yard towards the crew van

Crew was instructed to go to laydown [REDACTED] to attempt to locate and retrieve valve handles for a permitted job in [REDACTED]. After locating the valve handles the injured employee walked approx. 10 back towards the van to retrieve Kroil lubricant and tools needed to remove the nut on the valve handle. The employee then tripped on the edge of a wooden pallet. The employee injured his 5th digit of his right hand while attempting to brace his fall.
