Before the incident

Maintenance Associate was called to the freight elevator to investigate the safety door that was not functioning properly. After Locking out the elevator the Maintenance Associate had noticed the right side cable to the safety door was out of line. The Associate was attempting to properly align the cable into the pulley with their left hand and the counter weight on the cable broke off from its mourning that caused the cable to slip through Associates hand causing a laceration to left hand ring finger requiring stiches.
