What happened

Employee was grinding the edges of a small steel plate with an angle grinder using a cup grinding wheel attachment. He was holding the steel plate with his left hand and the angle grinder with his right hand. When the grinder contacted a weld the grinder kicked back and lacerated the top of his left-hand thumb.
