What happened

I drew up blood from the patients IV with a syringe and then applied a blunt sharp tip needle to put the blood into a green top lab tube. After i transferred the blood I went to put the syringe and needle still connected in the sharps container and it started to slipped slightly out of my hand and I accidentally reacted to catch it and then poked my right thumb with the needle.
