Before the incident

Employee was operating a pneumatic clamp on a column that positions the parts in the assembly of shipping containers.

What happened

Employee put his hand in the vicinity of where the pneumatic clamp retracts to the home position. When he switched the lever and it retracted to the home position it landed on his hand causing the injury. It was found that the air to operate the pneumatic clamp did not have a air reducing valve like the other (5) clamps on the upper level of the Jig.
