Before the incident

Hitting bolt with hammer

What happened

The employee was using a 10lb hammer while trying to remove a pin from a sheet of metal in our spiral factory. While striking the pin with right hand holding the hammer they were holding the pin with their left hand fingers and missed striking their left thumb. This resulted in an open avulsion and crush. We immediately gave the employee first aid called Axiom for injury triage and now are at Concentra for clinic care.
