Rounding and delivering staff updates to the units. I was called to the ED due to escalating behavior of the patient

What happened

While attempting to restrain the patient he started spitting blood. I directed another nurse to grab spit shields and she brought them back. Prior to that the patient had already spit blood landing in my eye face clothing and hair.
