Before the incident

Maintenance employee was using a battery powered drill with a cleaning disc on an extended shaft to clean the bore of a long filter head. The employee was holding and powering the drill using the right hand and using the left hand to 'cradle ' the shaft in efforts to help support the weight of the extended shaft. As cleaning was being performed the glove section between the employee 's ' thumb and index finger was snagged by the rotating shaft extension causing the employee 's hand to be twisted up around the drill shaft.
