Before the incident

Molder employees were called to [REDACTED] for a restart. Upon restart cavity number two had a piece of plastic resin funnel material (drip spout) that was broke off in gate causing a blockage. Molder Employee was attempting to free blockage from gate to return machine to a running state.

What happened

At approx. 2350 hours molder employees were called to [REDACTED] for a restart. Upon restart cavity number two had a piece of plastic resin funnel material (drip spout) that was broke off in gate causing a blockage. Molder Employee was attempting to free blockage from gate to return machine to a running state. Molder Employee was operating valve gates while simultaneously having hand over gate nozzle. Excessive pressure in the manifold built due to setting the temperatures above normal operating setpoints. When valve gates opened excessive pressure was released through the gate orifice. Molten plastic resin ended up covering the left-hand palm and fingers of the molder employees hand. Molder Employee immediately sought out first aid from Supervisor. Molder Employee was transported to receive medical treatment and is now back home.
