Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught in the coater machine due to multiple start/stop locations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a safety signaling system such as an audible warning system or an area light warning system which would warn employee(s) of impending motion or when the status of the machine is going to change. The safety signaling system is to alert employees during normal production operations. When servicing and/or maintenance is to be performed this machine is to be locked out in accordance with the company's lockout program.
