Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Employees in the stockroom were allowed to climb the shelves while
straddling the aisle(s) to
gain access to elevated shelves to stock and remove merchandise weighing
up to 30 pounds or
more. Employees were exposed to the hazard of falling more than 6 feet to
the concrete floor
below.
One acceptable and feasible way to correct this hazard is to provide and
require the use of
portable ladder platforms that could be used in the exiting aisles.
