Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to tuberculosis bacilli: a.) PHP Healthcare Inc., Naval Hospital-Portsmouth, Ward 9C. Respiratory isolation rooms where patients having os suspected of having tuberculosis were treated, were not equipped with negative pressure ventilation. Employees required to enter isolation rooms to provide routine nursing care were exposed to patients having tuberculosis on or about November 1992 and December 1992. **ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install exhaust ventilation in designated isolation rooms.
