Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to:
a.   A commercial gas appliance (dry roaster) was not
equipped with a flame safeguard and/or a safety
shutoff
device to automatically shut off the gas flow to
the main and intermittent piolet burners in case of
flame failure, exposing employees to the hazard of
explosion or fire.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among
others, to correct this hazard is ...to install a flame
safeguard and/or a safety shut-off device so that no
gas can flow until satisfactory ignition is assured as
required by the Southern Standard Gas Code, American
Standard ASA Z21.30, and NFPA Codes for Gas Appliances.
