Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the potential hazard of explosions in the ventilation system: (a)At the facility - On 21 July 1999, and at times prior thereto, the ventilation system to the Time Saver Sander was not equipped with an explosion suppression and prevention system. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: (1)Install explosion venting and dampers. (2)Install a spark detection and extinguishing system. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
