Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to fall hazards: a) Recycling Plant, Conveyor Belts:
Employees were exposed to
falls up to twenty (20) feet while walking up the conveyor belt to perform
maintenance on
various equipment.  "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE
METHOD TO ABATE THE HAZARDS" Is to comply with ANSI Standard B20.1-1987,
Safety
Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment. Restrict walking and riding
on conveyors at all
times.Provide elevated walkways and platforms, with guardrails and safe
access along all
conveyors in all areas where employees are required to perform work.
Restrict use and post
a sign instructing employees that" At no time should a conveyor be used
for a purpose other than
the one it was designed for."
