Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to, occluded in-running nip points on a bagel forming machine while cleaning the machine due to lack of proper operations/maintenance training: a). Establishment (bagel forming) BM-BFC-1001 Bagel Former - Employees had not received proper training in their native language to operate and perform operational maintenance on a bagel forming machine as evidenced by a serious injury to an employee as he performed cleaning of a running bagel forming machine. On or about 8-29-03. Among other methods, one feasible abatement method is to 1)., Conduct operator training in the native language of the operator and validate the training to ensure complete compliance. 2)., Translation of the operations manual into the native language of the operator and ensure the operators can read and understand these instructions 3)., Conduct training to ensure all operators understand the meaning of all warning symbols affixed to the machine(s).
