Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards of plastic pipe shattering due to excessive pressure: (a) In the basement: On or about 2/7/2007, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by shards of PVC from the PVC pile which was transporting compressed air throughout the basement. The pipe was not an approved compressed air line pipe enclosed in conduit or casing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: only use products or materials that are designed and approved for compressed air.
