Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while working on an elevated platform supported by a forklift forks without a proper cage or platform designed for that purpose: a.Precast Concrete Company, manufacturing building - Employees were exposed falls to potential fall hazards of up to 16 feet when working on an elevated pallet that was supported by a forklift. The employer did provide a proper cage or platform when employees were performing maintenance to the overhead crane, as determined on 05/25/07. NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include, but are not limited to the following: Ensure that the provisions of ASME B56.1-2004 ( or ASME B56.1-2000), Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks, Section 4.17 Elevating Personnel, are complied with for the protection of personnel lifted on forklifts.
