Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a)At 3544 SW Market St, Lee's Summit, MO - An employee was exposed to a
fall
hazard when he accessed a sloped metal awning by stepping on the top step
and
top cap of a fiberglass step ladder.
While ultimate responsibility for correcting the hazards rests with the
employer given
his/her superior knowledge of the workplace, feasible and acceptable
methods to correct
these hazards, among others, include:
(1)Ensure that employees do not step or stand on the top cap and the top
step of a
step ladder as prescribed in Section 9.3.2 (1) of ANSI A14.5-2000, American
Nation Standard for Ladders - Portable Reinforced - Safety Requirements.
(2)Ensure that employees use an extension ladder that extends three feet
above the
point of support at the roof/awning line to gain access to a roof/awning.
Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item - use the
CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.T
