North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)Heat Treat area -- an initial inspections were not performed on two 1/4 ton Coffing jib hoists and a TMM 300 pound hoist (cranes) prior to their being placed into operation. b)Maintenance area -- a 1/2 ton floor crane and a 1 ton A-Frame hoist (crane) was not inspected prior to being placed into operation. c)Scrap Dock area -- a 1/2 ton Hercules floor crane was not inspected prior to being placed into operation. Reference:ANSI B30.11 - 1998, Chapter 11-2, Section 11-2.1, Paragraph 11-2.1.1(a). Prior to initial use all new, altered, or modified hoists (cranes) shall be inspected. NOTE:Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to have all overhead hoists (cranes) load tested.)

North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) Facility wide -- Dated inspection reports or comparable records of critical items such as hoisting machinery, sheaves, ropes, wheels, and other lifting devices, as required in ANSI B30.11-1998, Chapter 11-2, Section 11-2.1, Paragraph 11-2.1.1(b)(2), shall be maintained. Reference:ANSI B30.11-1998, Chapter 11-2, Section 11-2.1, Paragraph 11-2.1.5 NOTE:Among other methods of abatement of this violation, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this violation is to inspect all overhead hoists and hoisting machinery and maintain the inspection records where they are available to appointed personnel.
