Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to struck by/caught between hazards:
a.Post Frame Wooden Building Under Construction: Employees were exposed to
being struck by trusses measuring 42 feet in length during installation.
The
employer failed to ensure that adequately temporarily bracing, including
the
top chord diagonal bracing, lateral, horizontal, and ground bracing of the
trusses, was installed, as determined on or about 06/02/09.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTANCE METHOD OF
ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S
RECOMMENDATIONS ON ROOF TRUSS ERECTION OR THE BSCI 1-03 ISSUED BY
THE WOOD TRUSS COUNCIL OF AMERICA AND THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE.
