Section 5a1: Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees
employment and a place of
employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to his employees in that the employer:
Loves Park, IL. Jobsite:
Instance A:
Employees were exposed to fall hazards while working on defective
extendable ladders. The
employer did not remove from service vehicle-mounted elevating and
rotating work platforms
after defects were identified.
Instance B:
The employer did not train nor did they mandate the inspection of
vehicle-mounted elevating and
rotating work platforms.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to follow the Owner's manual Sponco Model IH Ladders:
Train employees on how to properly inspect the units
Ensure employees are doing daily inspections of the units
Ensure defective equipment is taken out of service and not returned until
the units are fit for
service.
Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the
requirements of
29 CFR 1903.19(d)ts
