The rated load of the crane shall be plainly marked on each side of the crane, and if the crane has more than one hoisting unit, each hoist shall have its rated load marked on it or its load block and this marking shall be clearly legible from the ground or floor. Shop area - On or about February 8, 2012, the following overhead cranes did not have the rated load plainly marked on each side of the crane. 1. Northern 10 ton crane south side - center bay 2. 10 ton crane both side - west bay

29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2)(iii): Hooks with deformation or cracks. Visual inspection daily; monthly inspection with a certification record which includes the date of inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection and the serial number, or other identifier, of the hook inspected. For hooks with cracks or having more than 15 percent in excess of normal throat opening or more than 10 twist from the plane of the unbent hook refer to paragraph (l)(3)(iii)(a) of this section. Production area - On or about Fedruary 8, 2012, the inspection of hooks was not performed on a monthly basis with certification records.

29 CFR 1910.179(m)(1): Running ropes. A thorough inspection of all ropes shall be made at least once a month and a certification record which includes the date of inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection and an identifier for the ropes which were inspected shall be kept on file where readily available to appointed personnel. Any deterioration, resulting in appreciable loss of original strength, shall be carefully observed and determination made as to whether further use of the rope would constitute a safety hazard. Some of the conditions that could result in an appreciable loss of strength are the following: Production area - February 8, 2012, the inspection of the rope was not performed on a monthly basis with certification records.

29 CFR 1910.184(i)(9)(iii): Removal from service. Synthetic web slings shall be immediately removed from service if any of the following conditions are present: Snags, punctures, tears or cuts. Shop area - On or about February 8, 2012, several two and four inch synthetic web slings used to move material were damaged, worn and cut, and had not been removed from service. Employees were thereby exposed to hazards associated with moving and falling material.
