29 CFR 1910.132(a): protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury, burns and or impairment were encountered in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. At a production faciltiy in Karnes County, TX the employer did not provide adequate personal protective equipment when employees were clearing a blockage of an H2S scrubber unit.The employees were exposed to hot water temperature burns of 200 degree burns.

29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(1)(ii): The written hazard communication program did not include the methods the employer would use to inform employees of the hazards of non-routine tasks, and the hazards associated with chemicals contained in unlabeled pipes in their work areas At this production facility in Karnes, County, TX, the employer did not have a prescribed, written method to communicate or inform its employees of how they would be informed about chemical hazards when performing non-routine tasks such as, but not limited to, attempting to unclog an Ultrafab H2S scrubber unit. Employees were exposed to scaldiing injuries and chemical burns from the heated water used to unclog the Ultrafab unit and from the calcified H2S and residual H2S inside the unit.
