29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE): On or about March 6, 2014, employees of Bestmetal Corporation, Inc., were operating the sintering oven. The oven occasionally expels out hot particles through the oven opening due to an imbalance of airflow through the oven. The employer did not conduct a hazard assessment to determine if the hazard would necessitate the use of personal protective equipment such, but not limited to, eye and face protection. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1): The employer did not ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation: On or about March 6, 2014, employees of Bestmetal Corporation, Inc., were operating the sintering oven. The oven occasionally expels out hot particles through the oven opening due to an imbalance of airflow through the oven. The employer did not ensure that the operator use appropriate face protection such as, but not limited to, a face shield. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: On or about October 31, 2013, employees at Bestmetal Corporation, Inc., worked with or were potentially exposed to chemicals such as, but not limited to, anhydrous ammonia, nitrogen, metal working fluid, and powdered metals. The employer did not provide effective information and training on the hazardous chemicals. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
