29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer does not ensure that one or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. a. This violation occurred on or about June 18, 2014, in the Machine Shop where employees were exposed to struck-by and caught-by hazards when operating a Bullard VL-1 machine without a guard. b. This violation occurred on or about June 18, 2014, in the Machine Shop where employees were exposed to struck-by and caught-by hazards when operating a Cincinnati Hydro machine without a guard. c. This violation occurred on or about June 18, 2014, in the Machine Shop where employees were exposed to struck-by and caught-by hazards when operating a Bullard VL-2 machine without a guard. d. This violation occurred on or about June 18, 2014, in the Machine Shop where employees were exposed to struck-by and caught-by hazards when operating a Warner & Swacey 5A machine without a guard. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that one or more methods of machine guarding is provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks.
