On or about 07/01/14, at Chicos Distributing, St. Thomas, VI. An emergency eye wash station was not provided in the immediate area when employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as Vitec 3000 anti-scalant (phosphonic acid derivative) and Ecolab Dairy Glide (phosphoric acid) during water treatment operations. NOTE: Certification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(1): The employer did not develop, implement, and/or maintain at the workplace a written hazard communication program which describes how the criteria specified in 29 CFR 1910.1200(f), (g), and (h) will be met: On or about 07/01/14, at Chico's Distributing, St. Thomas, VI. The employer did not implement their written hazard communication program to ensure safety data sheets availability as follows: a. At the water treatment and bottling areas. Employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as Vitec 3000 anti-scalant (phosphonic acid derivative), Ecolab Dairy Glide (phosphoric acid), and other products such as Diamond Crystal Pellets (sodium chloride-salt) and Pyrene 1862 (sodium sesquicarbonate) during water treatment operations. b. At the warehouse area. Employees used and/or handled compressed gases such as propane tanks when replacing empty tanks with new tanks during Yale and Toyota forklifts maintenance operations. NOTE: Certification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
